Re: New decade; new movies (2020)

There's nothing bad about Evil Dead. https://i.imgur.com/UWpik52.gif I just mean films that are generally self-aware of the typically shlocky traditions of the genre films they're borrowing from, but end up executing them at an extremely high level so that they're actually good. If you remove Raimi...

Re: Tales of D&D

I personally had no issues with Keyleth's death (mainly because that is a VERY Keyleth way to die and in a way is an odd application of Rule of Cool that trumps RAW). I have a couple of RAW issues to the Dust of Deliciousness trick but again Rule of Cool trumps that. And the Hag could overcome the ...

Finished S2 of Deadwood. Again I'd say it was solid with good solid world/character development overall. I'd say the major things that marked this season was the introduction of the political machinations about what state was going to annex the Deadwood camp that is set-off against the more personal...

I remember hating Australia. I think it's a good example of where camp/cheese just doesn't work when it's also not very well made. Tremors is one of those good bad-movies, kinda like Evil Dead, though not quite on that level. Emperer's New Groove I haven't seen since it came out. I remember liking i...

Fished S1 of Deadwood. I don't think I have a lot of substance to say on it yet beyond the fact that it's a really solid drama (with surprisingly dark humor elements). Perhaps the thing that stands out to me the most is just the level of richness and detail they put into the setting and how the styl...

I'll try to pick up the Lost discussion tomorrow, but I do think I've decided to take a short break before I rewatch it. I decided to watch Deadwood first, which is only 36 eps. plus a movie, so it'll probably only take me 1-2 weeks to finish it.

I think I gave my general thoughts on Patton in the long movies thread. It's solid, but nothing special beyond Scott's performance. Moulin Rouge! is a fun film, and I tend to like films that embrace their campiness if they're well-executed, and Moulin Rouge! is, especially visually.

So if Jacob and MIB aren't really good and evil, what other dichotomies could they be? One that comes to mind is order/chaos. There is a truth to the idea that the order created by societies and the "purpose" that creates is often blindly accepted by people, often to the point of an unque...
